The Plastic Surgeon, Doctor Carlos Merlano Niebles was born in the capital of the department of Atlantico, Barranquilla. In the sandy city as it´s known by its inhabitants, was where he lived his entire childhood and adolescence, in his hometown he went to Junior High and High school at the Normal Nacional de Varones school.

At the age of 16 he entered the Libre University, Atlántico section, to realize his medicine studies. After he graduated, he worked for three years in a row as a general doctor in the regional hospitals of Boyacá, Antioquia, Atlántico and chocó.

His desire to specialize made him leave Colombia. He traveled to Brasil where he studied General Surgery, afterwards he studied Vascular and periferical surgery, and angiology. At the hospital of Clinics and Santa Casa de Misericordia of Marilia, São Paulo.

His Interest for aestetic plastic surgery motivated him to continue studying at the prestigious school of the famous plastic surgeon, Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, at Río de Janeiro, where he worked with this outstanding specialist for a period of three consecutive years.
When he obtained the title of Doctor Specialist in plastic aestetic surgery through the institute Ivo Pitanguy, the Institute of Medical post Graduation Carlos chagas and the Pontificia Católica University of Río de Janeiro, has the honor of taking part of the Alumni asociation of professor Ivo Pitanguy as an active member (www.aexpi.com.br) del año 2006.

During his stay in said plastic surgery service, Dr. Carlos Merlano gained a lot of interest in endoscopia for the making faces look younger which is why he traveled to the city of Corrientes in Argentina, where he realized a post graduation in this area at the faculty of medicine at the Nacional del Nordeste University.

After his arrival to Colombia several communication media took interest after his achievements outside the country for being one of the few plastic surgeons in the country to undertake studies at the school considered by many to be one of the best in the world on plastic surgery, and the oldest in latin america. This is why the coast´s largest selling newspaper dedicates an interview in its section of profesional costeño followed by an interview realized in the TV-show ENCUENTROS which is run by the social communicator Belinda Garcia in which he is pointed out to as one of the greatest caribean scientists of the moment.
In the meantime hes the coordinator of the service of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the hospital Universidad del Norte, in which he also teaches this medical specialty and in clinica cervantes.
